8.22.2014 Assignment
America is plagued by many problems. Among these problems are things such as government spending, national debt, social security, crime, racism and many more. Out of all the these problems we have, I feel like the three problems that are the worst are as follows: the education system, employment, and the economy.
The education is one of America biggest faults. We are ranked globally in reading and math 36th out of 50 countries. Education in general is ranked 22nd out of 50. The quality of the education and how much children are learning isn't the only problem that we face when we look at why we are lacking in this area. It costs the average student close to $20,000 to attend college. Most students are forced to take up loans and usually end up being close to being $30,000 in debt by the time that they end their schooling. One solution to save from being so much in debt, is to
The unemployment rate in America is currently at 6.2 percent. This is roughly 9.7 million people in America without jobs. The job growth that we just had is starting to lower again causing unemployment rates to rocket even higher. The work that people are finding when they finally get a job is usually only part time or temporary, which soon has them out looking for a job again. One way to lower unemployment would be to make jobs easier for people are make them morel long term.
The economy has been on a drop for several years now. This year, we are finally expecting a growth in the economy. Even with this growth, we we still be no where near the stability we were at around 10 years ago. The national debt is rising and we have no other way to pay for the debts we own than to raise taxes on your average lower, or middle class worker. One way to fix the economy would be to raise the number of people working and lower the unemployment rate.
America has many more problems than the ones I have listed above. Some of the problems are insignificant and others are even greater. One great thing about living in America is that ewe are always trying to better ourselves. We are working and trying to fix the problems we have today to create a better future.

Scientists at a North Carolina State University have developed a nail polish that when you stir your finger in your drink allows you to see if there has been a date rape drug slipped in your drink.
The only draw back is that there may be other drugs put in you drinks that aren't picked up in the polish.

1. I think that the challenge is good for ALS because it makes people become mroe aware of this disease and it has helped raise a lot of donations.
2. The whole point of pouring water over your head is for the person to experience what it is like when you have ALS. When the ice water is dumped over you, your muscles freeze up and that is what happens when you have the disease.
3. I think that this challenge could be improved if they had a way of checking in the people that get tagged so they can see how far this has traveled and how many people are becoming involved.

1. America is taxing companies more than they should on products and the companies feel this is unfair so they are joining with international companies in order to save money.
2. Taxes are used to help maintain a stable economy and fund the government.
3. The places that make the largest incomes should have to pay the most taxes because they have a larger income.

1. They were violent with the protesters and tried to physically force the protesters to stop.
They also moved back the release date of officers name who shot Brown, which caused tensions to rise.
2.Yes, he was shot a total of six times, four shots in the arms and two shots in the head from the front. They could have easily brought him down with one to two shots and they took excessive force to bring down a man they weren't even sure was the culprit yet as they released that they stopped him for walking in the middle of the street.
3. To restore order to this area I would try to peacefully let the protest die down by themselves, and worry about investigating the case to see if police brutality was used and if it was then punish those guilty instead of putting all of your force into stopping protests. I think if the people saw that action was being taken to actually investigate the case, they would calm down.

Dear Raychel,
By the end of my high school career, I plan on being graduating with honors. I hope to be able to pass my AP exams that I will be taking at the end of the year. I hope to be more connected with friends from other places. I will hopefully have made Promise, but if I haven't by this time, then I will have to earn a lot of scholarships to make up for it. I am hoping to get a good score on my senior project, also.
In Aug. 18, 2015, I plan to be moving into and starting my freshman year at Fairmont State University. I will be very anxious, as is expected for your first year in college. I already know my way arounf campus and where everything is, so that won;t be a worry of mine. Hopefully by the time I am starting school, I will have some idea of what i want to major in in college, but if at that time I am still unsure, I will enter my first year as undecided. I will hopefully be placed in the Honors Program at FSU. I hope to either live in Bryant Place or the honors dorm Morrow Hall. None of my friends plan on going to Fairmont, so I will probably be rooming with someone that I don't know.
My expectation in college will hopefully be unchanged from what they are now. I still hope to be studious, get good grades, have an understanding of all the classes that I will be taking, and connect with my teachers.
Always,
Raychel Fitzwater
